AI shousetsu (小説)
Write your web novel in Japanese, with an AI that keeps your voice
From a ネタ to a finished 小説: three free Japanese-first idea tools, a Kishōtenketsu outline and chapters drafted in your style. Write in Japanese, and translate into English when you are ready for readers overseas.
Three tools for the idea stage
Each one outputs Japanese by default, with English or the language of your input as options. All three give two free runs an hour without an account.Story idea maker (ネタ)
Ten quick story seeds from a genre, a mood and a few keywords or motifs. For the days when you know the feeling you want but not the story.
Novel concept maker (小説メーカー)
Full concepts for a novel, light novel, web novel or short story, aimed at the readers and themes you name.
Title maker (タイトル)
Title candidates in the style your genre expects: long light-novel titles, short literary ones, or mysterious, romantic and comedic options.
Why novels written with AI disappoint
Web novel readers follow an author for months. They notice when something is off.The voice is not yours
Readers come back for how you tell a story. A generic AI voice gives them no reason to.
Characters drift between updates
Over a long serialization, personalities and relationships quietly change without anyone deciding they should.
The AI decides the story
Twists you did not plan appear, and the story you wanted to tell gets lost along the way.
The novel never gets finished
Serialized stories stall when the plan for the ending was never written down.
From ネタ to a finished 小説
The whole book — plan, chapters and edits — can be written in Japanese; the interface itself is in English.Find the seed
Generate story seeds with the ネタ maker, then expand the best one into a full concept with the 小説 concept maker.
Name it
Shortlist titles with the タイトル maker, from long light-novel titles to short literary ones.
Set up the book in Japanese
Choose Japanese as the book's language, set genres, audience and tone, and paste up to 20,000 characters of your own writing so chapters match your style.
Build the cast
Characters with personality, motivation, stakes, an arc and a note on how each one speaks, down to forms of address.
Outline with Kishōtenketsu
Or with Three-Act, Hero's Journey, Save the Cat, Seven-Point or Freytag. Each chapter card has beats and a hook to end on.
Write and review
Draft chapters one at a time for serialization, or the rest of the book in one batch, then run the whole-book review.
Kishōtenketsu on your chapter cards
Kishōtenketsu (起承転結) is a four-part structure: introduction (ki), development (shō), twist (ten) and conclusion (ketsu). Unlike a three-act structure, it does not need a central conflict to move. The ten changes how the reader sees what came before, and the ketsu brings the pieces into a new balance.
When you choose Kishōtenketsu in AIBookWriter's outline step, the outline is built on those four movements. In a web novel, that might look like this:
- Ki: the opening arc, where readers meet the protagonist and learn the rules of the world.
- Shō: the long middle of the serialization, building relationships and deepening the setting.
- Ten: the turn, a revelation about the world or a character that recasts the earlier chapters.
- Ketsu: the resolution arc, where the new understanding plays out.
Each chapter card still has its own beats and a hook, which matters for serialization: every update should end on a reason to read the next one.
For a long isekai or fantasy web novel, you can also combine approaches. Plan the whole series in four movements, and give individual arcs a three-act shape inside them.
What you can write
A serialized web novel
Plan the full arc, then write chapter by chapter, each one ending on a hook for the next update.
A light novel volume
A complete volume with a long, descriptive title, a tight cast and an ending that sets up the next one.
A literary short story
A short piece in your own style, starting from the concept maker's short story mode.
An English edition
On Pro, translate a finished novel into English, or another of more than 30 languages, as a new linked book. The Japanese original is never changed.

Questions about writing a shousetsu with AI
Can I write the whole novel in Japanese?
Yes. Choose Japanese as the book's language in Basics and chapters are drafted in Japanese. Books can be written in more than 30 languages; the menus stay in English while your plan, chapters and edits are in Japanese.
Do the shousetsu tools only output Japanese?
Japanese is the default, but each of the three tools also offers English or the same language as your input. The ネタ maker returns ten story seeds, the 小説 concept maker returns full novel concepts, and the タイトル maker returns title candidates in the style you choose.
Can it match my writing style in Japanese?
Paste a sample of your own writing, up to 20,000 characters, in Details & style. Choose a passage that sounds the way this novel should, whether that is a light, dialogue-heavy style or a denser literary one, and read the first chapter carefully before writing the rest.
Can I post chapters to web novel sites?
Yes, the novel is yours. Export the book as Markdown on any plan, as DOCX from Plus or as an EPUB on Pro, and post or publish wherever you like. You keep all rights to what you write. Each site has its own rules on AI-assisted writing, so check them before you post.
Can I translate my novel into English?
Yes, on the Pro plan. The whole book, including chapters, characters, outline and metadata, is translated into a new linked book, and the Japanese original is never changed. A translation costs 30 credits plus 15 per chapter, so a 40-chapter novel costs 630 credits.
What does it cost to start?
The Free plan includes 100 credits at sign-up, your first outline free and chapter one written by the AI. The three shousetsu tools also give two free runs an hour without an account. Plus adds 1,000 credits a month for $12 a month billed yearly.
