Finish your book

Finish the book you started, without starting over

Import your Word manuscript for free, let the AI catch up on your characters and story, and write the remaining chapters in your own voice. Your existing text stays exactly as you wrote it.

Why manuscripts stall

Unfinished books tend to stop in the same few places.
  • The middle sags

The opening was exciting and the ending is clear, but there is no obvious way from chapter eight to chapter twenty.

  • You lost the thread

Months away from the draft, and now you cannot remember which subplot was heading where.

  • The draft is done but rough

A complete manuscript that needs an edit you keep putting off.

  • Publishing feels like another project

Cover, blurb, formatting and files: the finish line keeps moving away.

How the import works

Importing is free. Here is what happens to your manuscript.
  1. Upload

Upload your Word (.docx) manuscript, up to 200,000 words.

  2. Review what it found

Chapters are detected automatically. Check the split before anything is imported.

  3. Choose the extras

Optionally let the AI read the manuscript and fill in your characters and a story bible.

  4. Import

The manuscript becomes a book project, chapter by chapter, with your text exactly as written.

  5. Keep writing

Plan the remaining chapters on chapter cards and write them yourself or with AI drafts.

  6. Finish it properly

Run the whole-book review, generate a cover and store copy, and export the files.

What you have after the import

Everything the rest of the workflow needs, built from what you already wrote.
  • Your chapters

Split, in order, and with your words untouched.

  • Characters

Filled in by the optional AI pass: who they are, what they want and how they speak.

  • A story bible

A reference for your book's world, so new chapters stay consistent with the old ones.

  • Your voice on file

Use a passage from your own manuscript as the writing sample, up to 20,000 characters, so new chapters match the old.

  • Room to plan

Chapter cards for the chapters you have not written yet, with beats, hooks and target lengths.

  • Version history

Every save is kept from the moment you import.

Wherever you got stuck

  • A few chapters in

Import what you have, outline the rest on chapter cards and build on the cast the AI pass found.

  • Most of the way there

Import, plan the last act and draft the ending in your style.

  • A complete first draft

Import and go straight to the whole-book review for an editorial letter, pacing notes and line edits.

  • A finished, edited book

Import and skip ahead to the cover, store copy and formatting.

  • An old draft in a drawer

Import it, read the characters and story bible the AI pass produces, and decide whether it deserves finishing.

Your words stay yours

The worry with any AI tool and an existing manuscript is that it will quietly rewrite what you wrote. AIBookWriter is built so that cannot happen without you.

  • AI drafts sit next to your version. When you ask for a new draft of a chapter or a passage, it appears alongside your text. You choose what to keep.
  • Edits are scoped. A suggestion applies only to the exact passage it was made for. Tightening one paragraph does not reflow the chapter around it.
  • Everything is versioned. Every save is stored in version history, so a bad afternoon can always be undone.

The import itself does not rewrite your prose. Chapters are detected and you review the split; the optional AI pass reads the manuscript to fill in characters and a story bible, and leaves the chapters alone.

To make new chapters sound like the old ones, use your own manuscript as the writing sample. Pick up to 20,000 characters from a chapter you are happy with, ideally a recent one, since your voice may have changed since chapter one. Then draft the next chapter and compare. If you can tell where the old text ends and the new one starts, adjust the sample before you continue.

Questions about finishing a book with AI

Is the import really free?

Yes. Importing a Word (.docx) manuscript of up to 200,000 words costs nothing, including automatic chapter detection and checking the split before the import runs. Credits are spent only when you ask the AI to do something afterward, such as drafting a chapter or running the whole-book review.

What if my manuscript is longer than 200,000 words?

Split it into two files at a natural break, such as the end of a part, and import them as separate books. If it is a series in disguise, that may be the right shape anyway, and on Pro the first book can be added as context when you continue the second.

Will the AI change chapters I already wrote?

No. Your imported chapters stay as you wrote them. AI drafts are offered next to your version, edit suggestions apply only to the exact passage they were made for, and every save is kept in version history. Nothing changes unless you accept it.

Can it write the rest in my style?

Use a passage from your own manuscript as the writing sample, up to 20,000 characters, and set point of view, tense and tone to match. Choose a recent chapter you like, then draft one new chapter and compare it with your own before writing the rest.

My manuscript is not in Word. What now?

Save or export it as a .docx file first; most word processors and writing apps can do that. Then upload it, check the detected chapters and import. If the chapter split looks wrong at the review stage, tidy up the chapter breaks in the file and upload it again.

What does finishing cost?

It depends on what is left. Each new chapter costs 15, 20 or 30 credits by model tier, the whole-book review costs 15 credits per 1,000 words once per book, a cover costs 30 and formatting 200, once. The import itself is free, and the Free plan includes 100 credits to start.
