Chapter writing

Chapters that continue the story you planned

AIBookWriter writes each chapter from its outline card, the recaps of the chapters before it and the closing passage of the previous one, matched to a sample of your own writing.

How a chapter gets written

Each chapter is written in the context of your whole book, not as a standalone piece of text.
  1. Plan it on a card

Every chapter starts as an outline card with a summary, beats in order, an ending hook, a location, the characters on the page and a target length.

  2. Pick a tier

Swift for fast first drafts, Balanced for stronger structure and continuity, Literary for the richest prose and subtext.

  3. Add direction if you like

Type a note for this draft, such as “open in the middle of the storm” or “more banter between the sisters”, and it applies to this chapter only.

  4. Watch it stream, then decide

The chapter appears as it's written. If the chapter already had text, the new draft waits beside it for you to compare, use or discard.

What keeps chapters consistent

Long books go wrong in small ways. These are the pieces that stop the slips.
  • Recaps of earlier chapters

After a chapter is written, a recap of it is saved. Later chapters are written against those recaps, so they follow what the draft says, not only what the plan intended.

  • The previous chapter's last passage

The closing pages of the chapter before are included word for word, so a new chapter picks up the scene instead of restarting it.

  • Your writing sample

Paste up to 20,000 characters of your own prose in Details & style. Chapters match its voice, rhythm and word choice without reusing its content.

  • Characters with their own speech

Character profiles record how each person talks, so dialogue stays distinct from one chapter to the next.

  • Your text is never overwritten

A new draft never silently replaces your text. It's offered beside your version, and version history keeps snapshots of your text as you write.

  • Write all remaining chapters

Queue every empty chapter in one batch. If you stop part-way, you pay only for the chapters that finished.

What each chapter is written from

A long book falls apart in small ways. A character who broke her wrist in chapter four is climbing a fence in chapter nine. An argument that ended badly is forgotten by the next morning for no reason. These slips happen when each chapter is written from the plan alone, because the plan says what should happen, not what the draft ended up saying.

AIBookWriter writes from both. The outline card says what the chapter has to do. The recaps say what the earlier chapters contain. The last passage of the previous chapter, included word for word, lets the new one continue the moment rather than start fresh, whether you or AI wrote that chapter.

Voice comes from you. In Details & style you can paste a writing sample of up to 20,000 characters. It guides rhythm, diction and tone, and its content is never copied into your book. Your settings for point of view, tense, tone and style apply to every chapter.

The text stays yours. If a chapter already has words in it, a new draft is offered beside your version. If you edit while a draft is being written, your edit is kept and the draft waits beside it. Every save goes into the version history.

On the Free plan, AI writes your first chapter, so you can judge the result on your own book. Writing the rest needs Plus or higher.

Ways to work with it

  • Draft the whole book, then revise

Write all remaining chapters in one batch, then run the whole-book review and work through its notes.

  • Alternate with your own chapters

Write the chapters you care most about yourself and let AI draft the ones in between. Each AI chapter picks up from the closing passage of the one before it.

  • Compare alternatives

Ask for a new draft with a different direction and set it next to what you have. Keep whichever works, or neither.

  • Write non-fiction from sources

For non-fiction, chapters can draw on reference files you upload and cite them as [S1], [S2], without inventing sources.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a chapter cost?

Swift costs 15 credits per chapter, Balanced 20 and Literary 30, and the price is shown before you start. On the Free plan, AI writes your first chapter. Writing further chapters with AI needs Plus, with 1,000 credits a month, Pro, with 5,000, or Ultra, with 25,000.

Will it sound like me?

It's built to. Paste up to 20,000 characters of your own writing as a sample in Details & style, and chapters are written to match its voice, rhythm and diction without reusing its content. Read the first chapter critically, and adjust the sample or your tone and style settings if something feels off.

What happens to my text if I generate a new draft?

Nothing. If the chapter already has text, the new draft is offered beside it to compare, use or discard. If you edit while a draft is being written, your edit is kept and the draft waits beside it. Every save is in the version history, and restoring an old version keeps the replaced text there too.

How does writing all remaining chapters at once work?

It queues every empty chapter in your outline and writes them one after another with the tier you chose. The credits are reserved when you start, and if you stop part-way you pay only for the chapters that finished. Each chapter's recap is saved as it completes, so later chapters build on earlier ones.

How long is each chapter?

Each outline card has a target word count that you can change per chapter. The writer aims for that length, so a quiet chapter can stay short while a climactic one runs longer. If a chapter comes out too long or too short, adjust the target and generate a new draft to compare.

Can I edit a chapter with AI after it's written?

Yes. On Plus and higher, select a passage and describe the change, such as tightening a paragraph or sharpening dialogue. AI chat edits cost 5 credits each, and a suggestion applies only to the exact passage it was made for. If that passage has changed since, the edit isn't applied.

Does it work for non-fiction?

Yes. Non-fiction books have their own planning steps, with three whole-book structures and three chapter templates to choose from. Upload reference files and chapters cite them as [S1], [S2]; the writer doesn't invent sources. The self-help authors page walks through that flow. Chapters follow the template you chose, section by section.
